What is MUF?

The MUF (Maximum Usable Frequency) is the highest frequency that can be used for ionospheric communication at a given time and location.

📡
How to read the map

Each circle represents an ionospheric measurement point. The color indicates the MUF: green = high bands open, yellow/orange = mid bands, red = only low bands.

🎯
Practical use

If the MUF is 21 MHz, you can use frequencies up to 21 MHz (15m band and below). For reliable DX, use frequencies at 80-85% of the MUF.

📊
foF2 (Critical Frequency)

The foF2 is the critical frequency of the F2 layer: maximum frequency reflected at vertical incidence.
